About PEPNet-Northeast

Introduction

  • The PEPNet-Northeast regional center provides outreach and technical assistance to postsecondary programs in the Northeast serving individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing.
  • Funded by the U.S. Department of Education through a five-year, $5 million grant, PEPNet-Northeast is located at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID), a college of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).
  • PEPNet-Northeast is one of four regional postsecondary education centers that provide technical assistance to postsecondary institutions across the nation. The four regional centers work collaboratively and are known as the Postsecondary Education Programs Network (PEPNet).

PEPNet-Northeast goals

  • To increase access and transition opportunities for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • To expand the knowledge and skills of those who work with students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • To enhance resources and increase the amount of information available to institutions who want to improve their support services
  • To increase enrollment, retention, and graduation rates for postsecondary students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

PEPNet-Northeast technical assistance services

  • PEPNet-Northeast offers workshops, regional conferences, informational guides, and consultations to help postsecondary programs initiate and/or improve the accessibility of their programs for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • PEPNet-Northeast offers assistance with strategies for:
    • basic academic preparation
    • interpreting
    • notetaking
    • teaching English, math, or science
    • tutoring
    • using technology in classrooms
